Three ETA terrorists are now on trial at the National Court for the murder of Civil Guard Sergeant Juan Manuel Piñuel Villalón. At the age of forty-one, Juan Manuel was killed May 14, 2008. His partner at the time of the attack stated that Juan Manuel was reporting a nearby, suspicious van. The van had contained a bomb, which had suddenly detonated due to the two hundred kilos of explosives in it. The partner of Juan Manuel was found alive, buried under the debris from the bomb. Two of the men who were arrested for the attack, Arkaitz Goikoetxea Basabe and Aitor Cotano Sinde, are sentenced to 534 years in prison, while Iñigo Gutiérrez, is sentenced to 8 years.
